The Bestest Teacher

This poem was written for our teacher Ms. Fernandes on the occasion of her birthday (27th June). She encouraged us to express our creativity and to form our blogs.

A warm August day, two years ago,

Two girls showed you their poems,

.

You got an idea,

That gave us a window,

.

For us to share our little pearls,

And poems with the world,

.

Through this blog we founded a universe,

For writers, playwrights and poets well versed,

.

Always supportive and encouraging,

Nominating us for every next thing,

.

Epic and awesome, you were a STUD

Who got us into the Literary Club,

.

Not a question left unanswered,

All were treated equally, whether jock or nerd,

.

You would never hesitate,

Or back down from a class debate,

.

So thank you for all you have done,

You are definitely number one.

P.S.  We are aware that ‘ bestest’  isn’t a word but we intend to make it one in the near                       future. Happy Birthday, Miss.

The Other Road

The backbreaking ache

That I just can’t take

It’s the end of the road

The path isn’t gonna split any more

.

There’s nothing I can do

But start anew

Take the left lane

See if that’s a loss or a gain

.

This same principle is applicable in our life

If it wasn’t that road then take another try

There is always another path to take

Because in the end it is our destiny that only we can make

~Aarushi Aiyar

PS: this poem was written in 3 minutes 48 seconds.

To write a poem in under 5 minutes was challenge posed to me and I accepted.

I pass this on too:

A Spring Walk

The smell drifts around you

You inhale deep

The sweet scent of flowers

Drifting in the the breeze

.

Looking around you

It’s a watercolor painting

Depicting a wonderful scene

Of spring

.

Dewdrops fall

Pattering loud

Wet grass

After showers from a cloud

.

Sketch it maybe

It’s a beautiful sight

And the ambience

Is surely just right

.

An experience like this

Is hard to forget

Embedded in your memory

Now, in place, it’s set!

I found my inspiration to write this poem one day in school…

I was looking out of the window and dreaming of a beautiful day in nature. I was to write a composition so I imagined what I would write. And in that daydream the words for this poem came to me.

I hope you all enjoy reading my depiction of a day spent with Mother Nature. Happy reading!

Tales Of Heroes

As the tides turn
The world rotates
Change will come to all

Will eventually lead to a new dawn

Rebirth

I started out writing this poem for a competition. I didn’t win. But I did get honourable mention.

The butterfly spread out its wings and plunged into the light

All around it flowers bloomed and called the end of night

The summer months were humid so and winter was a trying time

But with the arrival of spring came the chance for another life

In the far reaches of the valley the stream passed lazily by

As, in the forest, the trees shook their branches with pride

The animals all clustered round awaiting their drink of life

The waterfall gushed down the rocks to the rescue of the wildlife

The season of life is spring again one feels it in the air

So never forget that after a gruelling winter, spring will always be there.

The latest news from the One Peace Band

A little sprinkle of fairy dust

A touch of ye old magic

The greed that leads to power lust

That makes the dire tragic

.

If you’re determined you can change your fate

Just by trying harder

Do the best you can

You’ll only come out stronger

.

So, take up your weapons it’s time for a fight

You know you can bring this world to light

.

So, fight it, fight it, fight it again

Fight it, fight it, fight it again, now

Fight it, fight it, fight it again

Fight it, fight it, fight it again now

Fight it

.

Your heart will be your guiding key

To open the door to success

Failure may be what you fear

But stay strong and move on

.

You are the place

You are the voice

You are the one

Now make a choice

.

Faries and mages may cast all they want

But join in the battle we need you up front

.

So fight it, fight it, fight it again

Fight it, fight it, fight it again now

Fight it, fight it, fight it again

Fight it, fight it, fight it again now

Fight it again

And beyond that we will be adding a title and an ending so stay tuned for more updates from the One Peace Band!

~Aarushi Aiyar

This is a re-post of the first poem I had ever written. I had posted it very long ago and it’s not exactly my best work but it was being ignored because no one saw it so I re-posted it.

Stars can’t shine without Darkness

If you think the world is not right

You are not getting your share of limelight

None will indulge you in your plight

For you are undeniably blind.

.

If you want to get something done

Do it yourself and be number one!

You’ll never get anywhere by whining or complaining

Work hard, if you want to be the one shining

.

Keep trying and never give up

Be the one to rise to the top

Go the extra mile and show them you’ve got star power

Don’t lose sight of the goal of the hour

.

Don’t cower in the shadows

Raise your voice and make yourself heard

Keep trying if you want to succeed

Work hard, because stars can’t shine without darkness

Chocolates

Tons and tons of chocolates galore

All in our lovely little store

Each we’ll sell, one by one

To a very hungry tum

.

They’re yummy, they’re sweet

They also make a wonderful treat

A single we can’t eat

We need just one more sweet

.

They are delicacies to our tongue

Which we eat when we are young

They take away the bitterness

Of sad memories and crisis

.

They make us happy

And all the more yakky

This makes our moms

A lot more snappy

.

But they’re still yummy

And they’re still sweet

After all, who doesn’t want

A choclaty treat?

If a Pen Writes a Letter…

You will find me in the shop
Sometimes with a spinning top
All my siblings will be there too
In case you’re looking for more than just a few

.

We’ll all be sitting, waiting around
Making no sound
The little shop at the end of the street
That is where we’ll meet

.

So now you know where to find us
None near a rust
If you want to inspect
Carry your magnifying lens

.

We are not hard to spot
That is why we are always caught.
We come wrapped in a lovely box
With a neat bow tied on the top.

.

So come on, come along
May as well be singing a song
For at the shop you will find delight
This is the pen’s letter, a little insight.

Time

Time keeps running

On and on and on

Forever moving, like the wind

Ever rising, like dawn

.

Sometimes sinking, like a setting sun

Everyday bringing us lots of fun

It puts us under pressure when the exams near

Also it makes us experience a lot of fear

.

At times we just hate it

We despise, we really do

When we want some fun, just a bit

Time just says ‘Shoo’

.

But don’t try to compete

For you cannot perform such a feat

In the end, time will always win

And this it does with no din

.

A race against time, you say?

In the end, it is time I shall pity!

But you know, there is a fine line

Between dreams, and reality

Chapter 1 : Daily Routine

Phew! Jean came home after a long and exhausting day at work. Tall with fiery red hair and gumdrop green eyes, she was a beautiful girl. She sat down with a cup of steaming hot green tea and mulled over the day’s incidents. She needed to get the reports to Mr.Green by Tuesday which was just round the corner. She needed to meet Mrs.White at a fabric store to pick out a new curtain fabric design. And on top of that she also had to give Mr.Collins a design for his bathroom. She walked towards her big white board and stared at the list written on it long and hard. She started to number them, counting the number of things she had to do along the way. She reached all the way till 17 before she finally finished reading her list. She gave a deep sigh and added on the new additions. She now had 20 items on her to do list. She sighed, yet again, and sat down to work on a good bathroom design for Mr.Collins. But she found that more than brainstorming, she was daydreaming! “I’m not feeling creative right now.” she said and shut her book in annoyance. She walked into the living room and stepped down onto the furry beige carpet that marked the start. She then approached the fireplace and kneeled down near it. She reached out for a knob at the side which would activate the fireplace. She turned the knob and watched as the dying embers slowly returned to life. Soon there was a warm fire blazing behind the glass. She inched a little closer towards the glass and stretched her arms. She yawned and was just about to fall asleep when someone called out her name. She looked up with sleepy eyes and saw a stout, rather short man. He was dressed in a black suit with a matching black tie and a warm smile. Jean groaned, fell back down onto the soft furry carpet behind her and stared at Smithers. She mumbled something that sounded like,”What is it now?Don’t tell me there’s another rat in the kitchen?””No ma’am.”said Smithers quite matter-of-factly.”What is it then?””Dinner ma’am. It’s ready. Will you be eating now?” asked Smithers watching Jean with eyes like a hawk.Jean nodded groggily and very reluctantly, stood up.

Brothers : A Short Poem

A little something I made for my brother who returned home recently (YAY!)

They’re kind, They’re sweet

A tad bit  annoying

To have one is a treat

Even if they love to sing(GAG!)

Older brothers are to take care

Whether they like it or not

Of your their younger siblings oh so fair

A choice they’ve not got

Younger brother go scot-free

While the elder ones are not spared

The little one who is oh so weak

Laughs at how the older one fared

But they’re still gifts no matter what

A rare case indeed

Brothers being kind to sisters, is it not?

However MY brother serves as my only need

Chapter 3: Delectable Dinner

Jean led Peter into the house, through the many narrow archways and into the dining room. She sat at one end of the table and motioned for Peter to copy. She then began to eat. “Uh Jean?” said Peter. “Yes?”she replied, raising her brows in expectance. That was when she noticed Peter’s empty plate and goblet. “So silly of me.”she quickly added before clapping twice. “Smithers!”she called, thus bringing Smithers rushing in with a special, long knife. He cut out a slice of the delicious roast duck and placed it on Peter’s plate. Peter delightedly began to hack away at his slice, much to the displeasure of Jean. Yet she made no comment and proceeded with her own meal. After a while they found themselves having finished desert as well. Jean, being the kind person she was, offered Peter a shelter for the night. Upon Peter’s consent she had him shown into the best guest room. This room had a magnificent view of the sea and the sunset was best seen from there. Then she departed for her own room. That night, the two had a wonderful rest, for all was well.”BEEP BEEP. BEEP BEEP.” Jean’s eyelids fluttered open to the sound of her alarm. She groaned, sat up, stretched, and fumbled around for the off button on her alarm clock. Yawning, she slipped off the bed, slipped on her slippers and exited the room. She walked down the stairs and the right, into the living room.

Chapter 2: The Arrival Of Peter

She followed Smithers through a narrow archway on the right, her footsteps distinct on the creaky wooden floor. A skinny man with scraggly hair and a mousy face greeted her, armed with a tray. “Ah Sean! Been working hard I see!”said Jean scrutinising the tiny man standing inches ahead. Sean nodded fearfully and with trembling hands he handed Smithers the tray. Setting the tray down on the table, Smithers pulled a chair back for Jean. Jean sat down and put her fingers together in a very Sherlock  Holmes style.Smithers picked up the tray once again and set it down in front of Jean this time. He carefully unloaded its contents and clapped twice. There was a sudden crash and a sound of something heavy hitting the floor and indistinct muttering as a yet cursing Sean stumbled out of the kitchen holding a plate, a goblet, cutlery and a bottle of water. Jean did her best to stifle a laugh as Sean set the plates down in a huff and, yet cursing, walked back into the kitchen. This was when she first noticed that there were two sets of plates and goblets. Why was this so when there was no more than one diner? Before she had a chance to ask, though, the familiar note produced by the doorbell rang through the empty rooms. Jean decided to open the door as her curiosity at this stage was overwhelming. Who was at the door? She turned the doorknob cautiously and opened the double doors. There stood a rather tall man with spiky blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. He greeted Jean with a warm smile. With a welcoming grin on her face, Jean said,”I was beginning to wonder who the second plate was for! Hello Peter! Long time no see!” “Miss me?”responded Peter, his smile widening into a grin now matching Jean’s.
